Why Most Nepali Business Websites Fail to Get Customers

More Nepali businesses have websites today than ever before. From Birgunj to Kathmandu, small shops and large enterprises alike have invested in getting online. But here is a question worth asking honestly: how many new customers did your website bring you last month?

For most business owners, the answer is uncomfortably close to zero. And the reason is not that digital doesn't work in Nepal — it is that having a website and having a website that works are two completely different things.

"We have a website" and "our website generates leads" are not the same statement. Most businesses in Nepal have the first. Very few have the second.

After auditing hundreds of business websites across Nepal, we keep seeing the same patterns. These sites may look presentable, but they were never designed with the customer's journey in mind. Here are the five reasons your website is getting visitors but not converting them into customers.

5 Reasons Your Website Is Not Bringing in Customers

1. No Clear Call-to-Action

A visitor lands on your site, looks around, and leaves — because they had no idea what to do next. A "Contact Us" link buried in the navigation is not a call-to-action. Every page needs one bold, specific next step: "Chat with us on WhatsApp," "Book a free consultation," "Get a quote today." Without it, even interested visitors walk away.

2. The Website Does Not Work Properly on Mobile

Over 85% of internet users in Nepal browse on mobile. If your site was built for desktop, you are already losing the majority of your audience. Slow load times, buttons too small to tap, text that requires zooming — each of these is a reason for a potential customer to hit the back button and find your competitor instead.

3. There Is Nothing to Build Trust

Nepali buyers are cautious online, and rightly so. If your website has no client testimonials, no photos of your team, no examples of past work, no visible phone number — visitors have no reason to trust you. A professionally designed site can look good without feeling credible. Real proof is what converts skeptical visitors into paying customers.

4. Google Cannot Find Your Website (Zero SEO)

section 4.jpg

Launching a website does not automatically get you on Google. Without proper SEO, your site is essentially invisible to anyone who does not already know your business name. Meanwhile, your competitors who invested in SEO are capturing customers who were actively searching for exactly what you offer. A website with no SEO is a digital business card that nobody sees.

5. The Content Is Written for the Owner, Not the Customer

section 5.jpg

"Our company was established in 2015 with a vision to..." — nobody reads this. Every visitor arrives with one question in mind: can this business solve my problem? If your homepage does not answer that within the first few seconds, they are gone. Customer-focused content leads with the problem, the solution, and the outcome — not the company history.

The Fix Is Not a Redesign — It Is a Rethink

You do not necessarily need to rebuild your website from scratch. What you need is to stop treating it like a brochure and start treating it like a salesperson. A good website works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, bringing in leads while you sleep. But only if it is built with strategy first, design second.

At Media Mitra, before we touch a single design element, we ask: what is the customer's journey through this site supposed to look like? What should they feel, understand, and do? The answers to those questions drive everything else.

If your current website has even three of the five problems listed above, you are losing potential customers every single day. That is not a design problem — it is a business problem.
